What people have to say about us

Darren Sutton - Dewsbury

I joined Leeds bagsd in 2013 with my GSD diesel as I was having a couple of problems with him on his recalls. On arriving at the club on my first day I was a bit apprehensive as I didn't know what to expect but on arriving I was made to feel very welcome by all at the club.
The instructors at the club have a wealth of knowledge which they use with great success in helping owners of German shepherds over come any problems they may be experiencing from minor to major problems they will do everything they can to help. All this is done voluntary as all the trainers and members do it for the love of the breed and also enjoy what they do.
The club has helped me a lot with my GSD not only have I found ways to overcome my problems with my GSD but I also made some very good friends as well.
So if there is anyone with a GSD who may be having some training issues with there GSD I would recommend Leeds bagsd you couldn't ask for a better club and I'm sure with the wealth of knowledge and experience at the club I'm sure they would be able to help not only will you get the advice that you need you may also make plenty of new friends just like I did.

I joined Leeds BAGSD in 1987 and have enjoyed some great times and experiences over the years.Inter-branch get togethers, displays,Cruft's trips and many other things.
Todays instructors between them have the answers to most dog training methods and problems and if they don't have the answer they will do their best to find it on your behalf.

The club is run very efficiently and new members are made very welcome and existing members enjoy the training sessions plus a chat over a cuppa afterwards ,we are a very sociable group of GSD dog lovers. Tom

When I lost my last 2 dogs within 7 months of each other I was destroyed and I said never again. Well, within 6 weeks I realised there was something massive missing from my life and I was not happy so I started looking for a new dog. As usual, I wanted a rescue again, but I had decided i wanted another GSD or GSD X, so off i went looking to see what i could find. I can remember looking through the glass door at the Dogs Trust, and I saw her - definitely a GSD. She was not giddy, she just sat there, so I knelt down next to the door and she came over and jumped up at the glass. I think my mind was made up the first time I looked into her eyes, so i asked if I could take her out. The answer was yes, so off we went. She took me for a drag across the field and I knew she was for me. The next hurdle was Heather and Claire, my daughter, so I took Claire down there to see her. Off I went for a another drag around the field and she melted my heart. The decision was made - I'll have her. I then took Heather down to meet her and she melted her as well and off we went. She had been in 4 homes prior to her joining our family so I knew i had my work cut out. I searched the internet for clubs and found BAGSD Leeds, so I called the number on the website. My first contact was John Hepworth and I told him about her and her history and he said to bring her down, so that is what I did. I think my passing comment on the phone was I'll be the one being dragged down the drive and John said you wont be the first, we have all been there. I took her to the club the following Sunday and, sure enough, I was dragged down the drive, feet trailing behind me. What a great decision I made, the best I could have made for Tara and myself. What an amazing club friendly, helpful and welcoming. Not forgetting the really great buns!! A year or so later I got Heather involved as we had adopted another GSD rescue, Leonard. She initially trained him and then we swapped dogs. Being part of the club has given both of us lots of insight into training and the breed itself. The main result being that it piqued my interest into problem behaviours and prompted me to study and qualify as a dog behaviourist. We have become so invested in the club, its training ethos of firm but fair and the social interactions, that we are both on the committee. I am now a BAGSD instructor, and Heather has just started shadowing instructors on the field with the aim of doing the same. Its more than just a dog training club. To (sort of) steal a strap line from a famous lager brand, If Carlsberg did a dog training club it would probably be nearly as good as BAGSD Leeds!

The British Association of German Shepherd Dogs in Leeds is a very friendly club. The instructors are supportive, approachable and extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of dog training. Positive reinforcement and innovative approaches to training and advice with behavioural problems too. My GSD and I have greatly benefitted from attending, from both an obedience and social aspect. I would highly recommend the Leeds Branch for any GSD owner.

Dave and I, together with our dog Maddie, have been members of BAGSD (Leeds) for 4years and the club has become a big and very happy part of our lives. Our Instructors are all qualified and have the knowledge and experience to help with the problems we all have with our dogs from time to time. There are 6 classes on a Sunday morning, from our fabulous puppy class, where the pups learn to socialise with each other, up to our advanced class for more mature dogs (and handlers). We have a fabulous social side for those who want it including fun days for dogs and handlers, a BBQ, a trip to Crufts, our notorious camping weekend and our fabulous Christmas party. We also raise money throughout the year for 3 very worthwhile canine charities, voted for by our members. I think our club is so successful because we are all animal lovers and try to do our very best for our own and each other's dogs, not by passing exams but by training them to be obedient and therefore happy. I am proud to say that we have made many good friends, both sheps and humans, along the way.

My pup Avi joined BAGSD at around 8 months old, he is now just over 1 year old. We were at a really difficult stage with him, most days it seemed like he was out of control. We had been going to a standard training club with him from 12 weeks and didn't seem to get the right advice and we were becoming extremely deflated with his behaviour. After not being able to make it to training for 3 weeks we had decided to look for another club. That's when we came across BAGSD. I messaged John and asked for a bit of advice and he offered more than plenty, also he offered us to come and socialise with no pressure, even just to watch a session to see if we wanted to join. We couldn't wait to sign up.
I can now say, I have a dog that is a joy to be around and my family have been commenting on what a different dog he is now.
All the trainers and members at BAGSD are always willing to help and offer advice! I cannot thank the team enough for everything they've done to get us where we are!
To anyone who has a GSD in the Leeds area, it is so worth it and even if it is hard work training our pup it is also becoming something we really enjoy together.

I was recommended BAGSD by a volunteer from The German Shepherd rescue before we bought our pup. We were to be our pups fourth owner and was aware how intelligent this breed of dog were so along with this and his background of previous homes we decided to make ourselves a member. our first day of training with our bundle of fluff and excitement was greeted with well behaved and well mannered German Shepherds and we were left hoping ours would be the same. All the staff at BAGSD from the team in the reception through to the trainers were and still are very helpful \ polite and full of knowledge about this breed. The members are a great bunch of people too, you can share your experiences over a cuppa and gain many new friends. The training staff encourage you and your dog to train at your own pace and give extra time if there is bits you cannot grasp. The training is fun for both your dog and yourself and there is no better feeling when you both achieve together. We train every day with our dog which was advised by the trainers and the hours have paid off . It is lovely to get praise from other dog owners of all breeds on our German Shepherd, he is alert \ educated and more important under control, we certainly would not be in this position without everyone at BAGSD. Thank you guys.

FIRST OF ALL I WOULD LIKE TO SAY WHAT A WONDERFUL, WELCOMING CLUB BAGSD IS, THE INSTRUCTORS (WHO ARE VOLUTEERS BY THE WAY) DO A FANTASTIC JOB. THEY HAVE GIVEN ME GREAT ADVICE SINCE I JOINED THEM IN 2016. I WAS AT THE END OF MY TETHER WITH MY GSD TIANNE, SHE WAS QUITE A REACTIVE DOG SUFFERING WITH FEAR AGGRESSION BEFORE I JOINED BAGSD. SINCE JOINING BAGSD BOTH ME AND TIANNE WERE GIVEN LOTS OF GUIDANCE AND TRAINING TIPS BY THE WONDERFUL INSTRUCTORS THERE. THEY ARE ALWAYS ON HAND TO GUIDE YOU IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. I AM PLEASED TO SAY THAT BOTH ME & TIANNE HAVE GROWN IN CONFIDENCE AND I NOW HAVE A DOG THAT I AM PROUD TO BE OUT AND ABOUT WITH SOCIALISING WITH OTHER DOGS. I HAVE A SOCIAL LIFE TOO THANKS TO BAGSD.
